I got my axe, and my nation body, and I bet there will be chances ta get something again! Ya cannot really pick, but people seem ta normally get things important ta them so if that would be important ta ya ya have good chances there.
What's a nation body? [Armin frowns. It sounds - well it sounds like something kind of horrible.] Has anyone ever got someone important to them rather than something? [Because if not he can only think of one other thing that might be returned to him. He doesn't have much in the way of possessions.]
It... is not complete, here. But as close as it can be without giving me a connection ta my world back home, I guess. Means I can't die fer good and heal faster and more completely, and can probably stay alive without food. And it takes longer ta get drunk, and I don't throw up from a single punch. Because what really affects our health are things that happen ta us as nations, not as single persons.
[He scratches his head] But here it's just weird, because we're separate but that still works, and we still have no connection ta our people and soil...
And ya can't get people. At least I never heard of it, and I bet I'd been given Faroes by now if that was possible. Or Green.
[Armin's silent for a moment, frowning deeply. All of that (well, aside from the bit about getting drunk) reminds him of titans. And titan shifters too. But Denmark's not a titan? He called it differently anyway and hasn't mentioned anything about shifting size and
and even if he is a titan shifter he seems nice. He'll probably work out what Denmark means properly when he has another chance to look at that map.]
Are they family? [But yes, he is a little disappointed to hear that. He misses Eren and Mikasa.]
They're my kids! Like Ice, but Ice is trying ta be all grown up these days and also he doesn't live with me anymore... it's really weird when the kids get big and leave the house.
But ya never know whom the landlord brings next, might just be yer friends.
W-wait, you have kids? I didn't think you were old enough! [And adult children too - just how old is Denmark? At least that means he's obviously not a titan, but maybe still a titan shifter? He's not sure. From what he can tell from awkward moments cuddled up to Eren he's still capable to be a father so...]
I'm about two thousand years old. I think. [He shrugs lightly.] People only started writing down ages and such when we were all teenagers already, so telling age can be hard.
And yeah, two of them! Both tagether with Nor, which is pretty nice, not many kids have more than one parent... We used ta have Green, too, but he didn't make it an then another Green came along, who's living with me right now, but he isn't the same one. Just the same name, because seriously nobody can remember that garble that he calls himself. [Denmark can be a racist asshole, news at four.]
Two thousand years old!! [That's like an age. And not just because Armin's only 15, but because wow two thousand years that's like twenty times as long as since the titans appeared think of all the things he could have seen.] You must have seen so many things! How did your world change in all of that time? Did people change too?
Everything changes over the years. But we only change some, I mean not more than humans over their lifetime, and those too close to us don't change at all. Which is why we can't keep humans too close, they somehow cannot deal with that. [He shrugs. It sucks, but he has gotten over it a long time ago. Or so he tells himself.] Animals can, though. The little dog that Fin and Sweden have is several centuries old now by what I can tell, and Ned has had a rabbit fer about the same amount of time.
[Armin glances at Denmark at that. So does that mean he shouldn't bother trying to get to know Denmark if he'll keep him at arm's length? He had thought that he seemed very friendly, but maybe it was just a front.]
Nah, it's just normal. Spent too much time with nations, so she's just not getting older... and human brains think too much fer that, or something. Don't worry though [he grins and slaps Armin's back] that doesn't seem ta be a problem here.
Um, well. Good? [Armin's not sure what to make of that, but anything that would get in the way of him finally having a growth spurt can stay well away.]
I wonder how that works, though. Did you ever have an anyone who stopped ageing around you? [He's starting to realise that that would be pretty lonely, though. Only your own kind and a few animals for company and he's not sure how many 'nations' there are.]
[good luck with that growth spurt in a place where nobody grows, Armin]
Maybe when I was very young. As a small kid ya don't really judge situations all that well. [and by very young he means a human age of somewhere around four or five.]
I can control how long I allow people and myself ta stay close, right?
It's not that bad, I have a lot of great citizens, and I can never meet all of them in a liftime, so not being able ta stay with any of them fer long will just mean that I'll meet more. [of course there are negative side too, but he will concentrate on the positive ones]
[Armin's pretty impressed with that positive outlook and he nods. He's certainly not going to point out the downsides for Denmark.] I suppose that's nice! Can you remember them all, though?
it gets fuzzy after a while. There's some people that stick, but... ya know how history gets more and more vague the further back in time ya go because the tradition gets tweaked by time and every traditor hands down a bit less than the one before? Memory does the same thing. And then there's so many that sometimes ya aren't sure anymore if ya mix people up. But some stay in yer memory very clearly because they were somehow more important ta ya. Fer good or bad reasons. Often both.
[Armin considers this, but it's not something he's heard of before. So much history was lost when they retreated behind the walls that it's hard to imagine the wealth of history that Denmark's world must have and how it would decay over time. It makes sense, though, and he slowly nods.]. I suppose human memory works the same way; you recall important things and other things fade. So many memories though! And so many people too.
